Welcome to Short Stories by Texas Authors web site.

What is Texas Shorts?

Short Stories by Texas Authors is an annual contest to find the best Texas Authors while raising money for literacy programs.  This is one of the many brain storms from B. Alan Bourgeois the director and founder of Texas Authors, Inc., a not for profit organization designed to help support and market Texas Authors.

DEAR Texas

A portion of the proceeds from the sales of each book has gone to the DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) Texas literacy program that helps gets books into the hands of people in need.  As of August 31, 2016, over $1,000 was raised from book sales.  We thank each person for supporting our endeavor and look forward to increasing the donations each year.  If you would like to donate directly to DEAR Texas, please visit their website by clicking here.  Thank You!

The Books:

Short Stories by Texas Authors, Vol 1 & 2 are now available for sale through a variety of sources, including our sponsors Texas Authors, Inc., and eBooks Galore.  No less the $2.00 per book sold goes towards the Dear Texas, Inc., literacy programs. Purchase Book 2 herePurchase Book 1 here.

Who's Eligible to Enter?

Any writer who lives in Texas is eligible to submit a short story in any category.  The 2017 contest will begin on March 1st with a $30 entry fee per story.  The maximum word count allowed is 3,000 and a Texas writer can enter as many stories as they would like.  The story can not have been published at any time in any form.  For more rules and regulations, please click here.

Awards and Benefits?

In 2016, we were able to award nearly $15,000 worth of prizes in a variety of ways.  The biggest award for any Texas author is the fact that they get a large amount of publicity from being published.  No matter if the author has any books published, or plans to, this is a great way to get new readers to learn about them.  We do not have the current list of prizes for 2016, but plan to have them posted prior to accepting entries in March.  Click here for 2017 Awards

Who are the Sponsors?

The 2017 sponsors are Texas Authors, Inc., a not for profit organization that supports and markets Texas Authors.  eBook Galore, an eBook outlet that offers a wide variety of ebooks for the general public. Texas Authors Institute of History, the only museum in the country that supports a State's author group.
